Cheap Gas at an Expensive Price

The Hidden Cost

People want cheap gas, fracking has created just that. In a rush to get the gas to market, we’re pushing high volume through an aging infrastructure not prepared to handle it. In 2015 the US is projected to produce and distribute 25% more cubic tons of natural gas than just a decade earlier.

Natural gas can only be transported through pipelines. Increase in volume could be creating dangerous conditions. In the decade prior to 2010 there were three reported fatalities, in just the five years since there have been 57. According to Richard B. Kuprewicz, the President of Accufacts Inc., there is “no doubt we are moving more gas, especially in the northeast, and using [old] pipelines for more than the original design intended.”
